BUNKLY TIP

Count the days on a calendar

Mark the date you got the paper, then mark every date on a calendar. Ask legal aid to double check your dates with you.

EXAMPLE

Say you got a notice for late rent

Say your rent was late and you found a notice to leave on your door on a Friday. It isn't a court order, and Ohio Legal Help says the whole process can take 4 to 6 weeks. You could call legal aid that day, give them the date you got the notice, and dial 211 to ask about rent help. You could also ask your landlord about a written payment plan.

This is an example to show how it can work. It is not about a real person, and every situation is different. It is not legal advice. Source (As of October 22, 2026): https://www.ohiolegalhelp.org/topic/eviction

What if I get eviction papers from court?
