Quick answers

Can I get a state ID for free if I'm homeless?

Yes, once. The Department of Public Safety offers a free non driver ID card for people experiencing homelessness. You complete an Affidavit of Homeless Status and a Consent for use of South Dakota Address form. You and a homeless service provider who knows your housing status sign them in front of a notary. Bunkly tip: shelters, food banks, health clinics and outreach programs can count as a homeless services provider. Ask a staff person you already know to sign with you in front of a notary.
