Hi friend. If you are young and don't have a safe place right now, you matter and there are people who can help. You can ask for help even if you are not sure what you need.

Quick answers

Who can I talk to if I ran away or can't go home?

1 800 RUNAWAY is a youth crisis line that is free, confidential and open all day, every day. They can listen, help you look at options and connect you to local help. Call 800 786 2929, or use the chat or text on the website.

Can I stay in school if I don't have a home?

Yes. Federal law, called McKinney Vento, protects children and youth who lack a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence. Every school district must have a trained homeless education liaison to help you enroll and take part in school.

Do homeless students get free school meals?

Children can get free school meals through programs like SNAP, or based on their status as homeless, runaway or foster children. Ask your school or your district liaison.
