Screening

Build a One-Page Rental Resume

A one-page rental resume answers a landlord's screening questions before they ask. List every address for the past 2+ years with dates and landlord contacts, your employer, start date and monthly income, two references who've seen how you care for a place, and pet details if you have one. Keep a PDF on your phone and update it every time you move or change jobs.

Why this helps

Moving is stressful enough. When you hand a landlord one clean page, they can see right away that you're organized and that you'll care for their home. And the next time you're searching, you already have it ready to send!

Do this

  1. List every address for the past 2+ years, with dates and landlord contacts. That way a landlord can check your history without hunting for it.
  2. List your employer, your start date, and your monthly income. Landlords ask about these, so you'll already have the answer ready.
  3. Pick two people who have seen how you take care of a place, like a past landlord or a neighbor. Ask them first, so they aren't surprised by the call.
  4. Add pet details if you have one. Being upfront keeps everybody comfortable.
  5. Keep a PDF on your phone, and update it every time you move or change jobs. That way it's always current and easy to find.

Next step

Take ten minutes tonight and put your page together. Then when a place you love comes up, you can send it right away. If you get stuck on any part, we're happy to help!
