How shelter works in Connecticut
The Connecticut Department of Housing says to start by calling 211 and choosing option 3 (TTY 1 800 671 0737). A specialist will look for options that could keep you out of shelter. Eligible households get an appointment with a Coordinated Access Network (CAN) in a community of their choice. Connecticut is not a right to shelter state, so beds are not guaranteed, and you may be put on a waiting list.
"I need a safe place to sleep tonight. I'm near [city or ZIP]. It's [just me / me and my kids]."
