Deposits and Move-In/Move-Out

Count the Keys on Move-In Day

List every key, fob, garage remote and mailbox key you receive, and have you and your landlord both sign the list. Missing keys at move-out often mean paying for rekeying. If you want extra security, ask your landlord first instead of changing anything yourself.

Make the move-in sheet

Why this helps

Keys go missing, and that can turn into a bill for rekeying. A list you both signed means you and your landlord agree on the count, on the day you move in and the day you leave.

Do this

  1. List every key, fob, garage remote, and mailbox key you receive. Small things like a mailbox key are the ones that get lost.
  2. Have you and your landlord both sign the list. Two signatures mean the same count for both of you.
  3. If you want extra security, ask your landlord first instead of changing anything yourself. A quick ask keeps things friendly.

Next step

Sign the list at the door while your landlord is still there. It takes a minute, and you'll both be glad you did.
