Wildfire Smoke Days: Protect the Air Inside

Late summer in the Northwest can bring smoky days. Keep windows and doors closed when air quality is poor, put in a fresh furnace filter, and run a portable air purifier in the room you sleep in. Check local air quality before opening up again.

Why this helps

Smoky air outside becomes smoky air in your bedroom if the windows stay open. A closed home and a fresh filter help you breathe easier until the sky clears.

Do this

  1. Keep windows and doors closed when the air quality is poor. That keeps the smoke outside where it belongs.
  2. Put in a fresh furnace filter. A clean filter can do its job better.
  3. Run a portable air purifier in the room where you sleep. You spend hours there, so it's the right spot.
  4. Check the local air quality before you open the home again. Waiting for a better reading is worth the patience.

Next step

If the sky looks hazy today, close up the windows now. Then check the air quality report and settle in.
